In an exclusive dictate, the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, has commanded all school teachers in Bihar to keep a strict eye on open defecation and also asked to take pictures of those found releasing themselves in open field. It has been seen that several teachers have come together and protested against the notice, which was issued by all BDOs, Block Education officials, the teachers have been appointed and allotted in one of the two shifts to fulfill this duty, which starts from morning 5:00 am and the other shift from evening 4:00 pm.
According to the order, the principals of schools, on the other hand, were commended for supervising the job. On the other hand, this is not the first time that teachers in the state of Bihar have been commanded to do a task outside their occupation. Earlier, teachers have been sent on census duty, election responsibility, and have to accumulate voters’ list. The state Education Minister of Bihar has said that the government just wishes that all the teachers to work out their authority in society and bring wakefulness. The minister, conversely, stated, “Taking selfies with defaulters is various matter; individually I didn’t like it at all.”
Based on the reports, the Aurangabad region management has decided to announce Pawai panchayat of ODF Deo block by December 31, in this year itself. To ensure that, the district management got 62 nursery and middle-school teachers who enrolled in the operation since November 18. The Kudni block management located at Muzaffarpur has engaged 146 teachers.
Teachers’ organization, on the other hand, has stated that while they completely support the ODF movement, they find it “hard” to meet the terms with the orders as it “abuses teachers,” undermines “self-respect” and could “jeopardize security.” On the other hand, the teachers were reluctant to carry out the job. Bihar’s general secretary Madhyamik Sikshak Sangh (BMSS) and ex-MP Shatrughan Prasad Singh circulated an application to CM Nitish Kumar today asking to withdraw the orders, which commanded them to visit several villages in the morning as well as in the evening.
